The Tour of Maras and Moray begins picking up passengers in the morning from their hotels, according to a schedule coordinated with the tourists and established prior to the day of the tour. First, we will travel from Cruzpata to Chincheros in our select vehicle from Inka Express Travel. The Sacred Valley is an hour and a half from Cusco, and once there, the archeological center, Moray, is another 25 minutes or so away. Moray is known as the Incan greenhouse, and from there we will be able to see the Vilcanota Mountain Range, with its snowcapped mountaintops, and the spectacular mountain called “El Chicón.”
The Terraces of Moray
In Moray, we will be able to taste a typical Incan drink made from corn. Moray is an Incan archeological center where we will be able to learn about a series of circular Incan terraces, constructed to serve as an Andean agricultural site. Each circle possesses its own respective irrigation canal, which the ancient Incans used to experiment with agriculture. Our official guide will go into detail about the science and thought processes behind all elements of the attractive tourist destination that is Moray.
The Salt Mines of Maras (Salineras de Maras)
Following the tour of Moray, we will go to the salt mines of Maras, where we will be able to appreciate the marvel, and fantastic view of the famous salt mines. These mines are generated by just a stream of water, and the power of the sun – visitors are able to admire the fantastic effect of the range of colors produced by the various pools of salt water. To observe this color-changing effect is quite a unique experience.
Finishing our tour, we will return to Cusco in our respective bus according to the previously coordinated schedule.
