The Route of the Sun (Ruta de Sol) is from Cusco to Puno. We’ll be able to learn about the diverse attractions in this spectacular trip to the south, which begins from Cusco City, and ends in a very prominent museum in the city of Puno.
We’ll enjoy the distinct landscapes the route has to offer, stopping in local cities whose main attractions stand out, like first, at Andahuaylillas, with its marvelous Sistine Chapel of America, where we’ll have a brief visit and you’ll be able to appreciate the paintings and ornately decorated inside.
After, we’ll continue on the route, with our next stop being Raqchi, an archeological center in which we’ll find the temple of the god Wiracocha. We’ll also be able to appreciate Qolqas, a place where food and other nourishment was kept, amongst other things that the Incas and townspeople used. Finishing this visit, we’ll travel to a restaurant where we’ll have some delicious, typical mountain food.
Going out of our way a bit, the second to last place we’ll visit is called La Raya, the highest point between Cusco and Puno. Here, we’ll visit some beautiful places, and have time to take photos.
Back on route, the last place we’ll visit on our itinerary is the Lítico Museum of Pukara, which belongs to a territory in the city of Puno. Here, the famous “little bulls” of Pukara are manufactured. A popular tradition here is to place the little bulls on the highest part of the roofs of the houses because they’re considered to be good luck relics. In Pukara we will also have the opportunity to see some objects from the Lítican culture, which have been preserved the local museum of the town.
Finally, we’ll head towards Puno City, arriving at approximately 17:00pm, completing the spectacular trip of the Route of the Sun.
